How our Geyser installation Works

Geyser Replacement

Geyser installation requires a team of experienced plumbers who are qualified to replace it. With modern-day apartment living geysers can be installed horizontally to save space or vertically for bigger spaces. It is generally harder to install it horizontally as it requires more surface area and is therefor heavier so please make sure you call Plumbers Jhb to ensure a safe and secure installation or replacement.

Signs of a faulty or failing geyser

Insufficient Hot Water

  • This is one of the most telling signs of a geyser giving up on you. Normally water heaters hold 150L-200L of hot water.
  • Sediment often builds up inside a geyser as there are minerals that come through the water and the inside of the tank. This can cause build up and make less space inside your geyser, causing your geyser to keep trying to keep the heat and water running longer eventually leading to the geyser failing.
  • Cleaning or flushing the tank at least once a year can help prevent the problem from occurring.

Noises Coming From the Geyser

Be on the looking for banging or clanking noises coming from your geyser. This is also a very common sign. This is because the mineral buildup causes the tank to overheat and the overheating therefore causes the failure.

Murky Hot Water

If the water is not clear or has a funny smell this might be a sign of sediment leaking through the geyser and causing a blockage in the aerators. If there is also a brown tinge to the water this could be copper sediment coming through. If running your water to get rid of the colour does not work then it is time to replace it.

Leaking Geyser

This one is self-explanatory but if your geyser is leaking it is oftentimes a sign of a faulty geyser. A leaking geyser has the potential to flood an entire home, if this happens to you get in touch with our emergency plumbers asap.

How long does it take to install a geyser?

With the right tools and equipment, it will generally take a qualified plumber 2 to 3 hours for your geyser to be installed barring any unforeseen issues.

How much does a new geyser cost?

For a brand new geyser, it will cost you anywhere from R7000 to R12000 depending on your needs.

The price to install a geyser is anywhere from R1500 to R3000 depending on the complication of the installation.

How Long will my Geyser Last?

Geysers generally have a life expectancy of anywhere from 8 to 12 years depending on if you have been keeping up with geyser maintenance and repair. Give us a call if you need a geyser inspection.

What Should my thermostat temperature be?

A geyser thermostat should ideally be set from 51 to 59 degrees in summer and 60 to 65 degrees during winter. The setting should never fall below 50 degrees or over 70 degrees as it can cause bacterial growth or cause damage to the geyser.

Geyser installation customers

I called out Plumbers Jhb’s geyser installation team at around 10 am on a Monday. I had a geyser leak in my apartment, and it was not the first time it has happened so I knew it was time for a replacement. The guys were there in around 2 hours with all the necessary tools and equipment. While one part of the team started assessing the geyser and how to remove it one of the managers went through different options with me and popped out to go buy it for me while the old geyser was being uninstalled. Overall the job took around 3 and a half hours but the team was extremely helpful and professional. Now I can enjoy a nice hot bath with a glass of wine.

Liza Steyn

My geyser was 14 years old and started making noises so I knew it was time for a new one. I called up Plumbers Jhb’s installation guys and they were dispatched within the hour. I had already bought my own geyser so the installation was quick and easy, only took 2 hours. Professional and efficient service, I highly recommend Plumbers Jhb!

Mandla Monak

On Sunday night I went down to the laundry room and noticed my geyser was leaking. I called out the Plumbers Jhb’s emergency team and they determined my geyser would need to be replaced. They showed me the different brands that would be suited to my needs (I needed a 150L drum), unfortunately, all stores were closed so we had to wait until Monday morning. When I awoke the next day I had received several texts that they had purchased my new geyser and were on their way for the installation. The installation was roughly 3 hours. I have never received such good service in my life and will definitely be recommending geyser installation from Plumbers Jhb!
